There was everything: the arena almost full with people from all walks of life, Spanish gentlemen and women in colorful dresses, the late afternoon sun slowly fading away into the evening, occasionally the smell of cigar smoke. The brass orchestra played pasodobles, and all eyes following the performance of the rejoneador. Rejoneador is the name given to a bullfighter who fights the bull on horseback. It was supremely executed from start to finish, artistic horse riding combined with often breathtaking movements. The public recognized the risk taking with applause and in the end got up for standing ovations, waving white handkerchiefs, a signal to “El Presidente” in order to grant a trofeo and so he did in the end.
